The Atlanta Hawks have acquired Chandler Parsons in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Headed to the Grizzlies will be Solomon Hill and Miles Plumlee.

All three of the players involved in the deal have expiring contracts and neither party is significantly impacting their cap space. The Hawks, by effectively consolidating undesirable contracts, have freed up a roster spot.

The Grizzlies, in contrast, suddenly have two slightly more palatable deals that they’d presumably be more likely to flip to other teams.

Parsons’ three-year stint with the Grizzlies hasn’t gone as well as either party hoped for when he signed a lucrative four-year deal back in the summer of 2016. In 25 games for the squad last season, he averaged 7.5 points per game in just under 20 minutes of action.

In a subsequent tweet about the trade, Wojnarowski adds that Parsons and the Grizz had been discussing a buyout but weren’t able to come to terms on a suitable number.

Hill is another player who has seen his role decrease since the day he initially signed his contract. The 28-year-old averaged close to 30 minutes per game in 2016-17 but has seen his minutes peter off and fluctuate since.

Atlanta Hawks center Miles Plumlee was charged with marijuana possession on Long Island late last month.

The big fella was reportedly released on a $100 bail.

Plumlee, 29, ended up with the Hawks in June as part of the Dwight Howard trade to Charlotte.

Per the AJC:

“We are aware of the situation involving Miles,” the Hawks said in a statement. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.”

If Plumlee is convicted of or pleads guilty to the possession charge, he would be subject to the NBA’s marijuana program. A first offense requires players to enter counseling with no additional penalty. A second offense results in a fine, a third offense triggers a five-game suspension and subsequent violations each carry an additional five-game suspension.

The Hawks acquired Plumlee in June as part of a trade with the Hornets. The Hawks sent center Dwight Howard and the No. 31 overall pick in the 2017 draft to Charlotte for Plumlee, guard Marco Belinelli and the No. 41 overall pick in the 2017 draft.

The NBA trade deadline is about a month away, and one name you can add to the growing list of players on the block is Suns center Miles Plumlee. Despite averages of 6.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for his career, Plumlee—the older brother of Nets big man Mason Plumlee—is down to just 4.7 ppg and 5.4 rpg this season, as his playing time has dwindled in recent months.

Details on Plumlee’s trade availability, via ESPN:

The Phoenix Suns are actively shopping big man Miles Plumlee in advance of the Feb. 19 trade deadline, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN.com ‎that the Suns are working in conjunction with Plumlee’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, to try to find a new home for the third-year center, who has seen his playing time steadily dwindle as the season has progressed.

Plumlee is averaging a mere 13.5 minutes per game this month, compared to 23.5 minutes per game in November, and faces even more competition in the Suns’ frontcourt rotation now in the wake of Phoenix’s recent acquisition of Brandan Wright and the continued progression of Alex Len.

The Suns are believed to be seeking at least one future first-round pick for the 26-year-old, who was selected 26th overall by Indiana in ‎the 2012 draft, one year before brother Mason was selected No. 22 overall by Brooklyn in the 2013 draft.

A stress fracture in Pero Antic’s right ankle will cause the Hawks’ center to miss the Rising Stars Challenge on All-Star Friday night. So the League announced on Friday that Suns center Miles Plumlee will be Antic’s replacement, and deservedly so. Per Suns.com:

The NBA announced today Phoenix Suns second-year center Miles Plumlee has been selected to replace injured rookie Pero Antic of the Atlanta Hawks in the 2014 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, Feb. 14, at NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.

Plumlee is the eighth player in franchise history to participate in the All-Star Weekend event, joining Wesley Person (1995), Trevor Ruffin (1995), Michael Finley (1996), Steve Nash (1997), Shawn Marion (2001), Amar’e Stoudemire (2003, 2004-MVP) and Markieff Morris (2012).

The 6-11, 255-pound center earns the honor after averaging 9.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.49 blocks in 27.4 minutes while starting all 49 of the Suns’ games this season. Plumlee has posted 10 double-doubles already this season, the most by a Suns sophomore since Stoudemire had 19 in 2003-04.

When people succeed, contrary to popular belief, it’s not just the result of talent and hard work. There has to be an opportunity available, a showcase that allows a particular skill set to flourish. For a Phoenix Suns team with nothing to lose, second-year center Miles Plumlee found his showcase.

“It’s combination of a lot of things,” Plumlee says. He was the 26th pick in the 2012 Draft and played for the Pacers last season before being traded to Phoenix this past summer. “The opportunity to get a lot of minutes and play through my mistakes really helped my confidence. I always felt like I had a lot stuff in me and playing over the summer [in Summer League] really helped my confidence.”

Though he exhibited his fair share of athleticism at Krzyzewskiville, the former Blue Devil never got the benefit of the doubt. Now, however, the Suns can attest to his talent. Whether on dunks or muscle man rebounds, Plumlee has shown he belongs. His play (10 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 1.9 bpg) has been a big reason the Suns are one of the feel-good stories of the young season. “We have a good group of guys and we’re all hungry to win, and we love playing for Coach [Jeff] Hornacek,” says Plumlee. “I like his demeanor, he’s ultra-competitive, and as a guy who’s played, he has an excellent perspective on things.”

Scouts who doubted Plumlee should have realized that competition has been part of his life for years; all he had to do was challenge his brothers. Mason, who plays for the Brooklyn Nets and Marshall, currently running the floor for the Dookies, represent a trifecta of high-caliber bloodlines. “It’s rare. Me and Mason are super-competitive and I was talking with the Morris twins [Marcus and Markieff also play for Phoenix] and they are different from us. We wouldn’t be afraid to hurt each other, but the Morris’ look out for one another more than we do. It’s kinda cool to see.”

ORLANDO — There is a tremendous history of famous lineage in the NBA. The influence of top college basketball programs is also fairly omnipresent in the League. Then you have Mason and Miles Plumlee, brothers who equally complement and exemplify each phenomenon. The two siblings, from Warsaw, IN, played three seasons together at Duke and were solid contributors to the 2010 Blue Devils team that won the NCAA National Championship. In ’11-12, they were joined by their youngest brother, Marshall, too.

Now, Marshall is preparing for his red-shirt sophomore season in Durham, NC, and Miles and Mason are continuing the school’s legacy of producing high-quality NBA talent. The Indiana Pacers selected Miles with the 26th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. More recently, the Brooklyn Nets made Mason the 22nd overall pick on June 27. This year’s Draft was an experience neither will ever forget.

“It was cool because I didn’t go to New York when I got drafted,” Miles says. “It was cool to be there and see the whole production and see him go up on stage. That kind of the iconic moment, watching him shake David Stern’s hand. Our family had a great time.”

Having his older brother and his entire family with him in the Barclays Center certainly added to the already special night for Mason, too.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” Mason says. “I know I wasn’t guaranteed to go in the Lottery, but there was an outside chance. And besides that, it was David Stern’s last Draft, I ended up going to Brooklyn anyway, it just worked out perfectly. I was glad [Miles] was there. I wanted to spend that night with my family so I was glad they all made it.”

With both brothers being selected by teams in the late first round, they were immediately added to winning teams in the League. For Miles, he watched from the sidelines as his Pacers battled the Miami Heat to seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals in June. Mason is now the youngest player on a Nets roster that has a “Championship or bust” mindset.

Miles has already gained a lot from being within a winning culture.

“I’ve learned a lot from just sitting on the bench and watching Roy [Hibbert], David West and really all the guys on our team,” Mile says. “Just the way we play our system, especially defensive-wise.”

The lessons he learned in his rookie year forged his momentum into this crucial offseason.

“I think I have a lot more confidence and that comes from when you’re putting the work in,” he says. “I’ve learned a lot from a lot of great players, I’ve been working really hard and it’s just starting to come together. I’m really excited about this season,”

Mason’s rookie season should be similar to that of his older brother’s. He’s the first-round draft pick of a team that traded for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce during the same night his NBA dreams came true. He’s also the last first-round pick Brooklyn will have until 2015.

“I can’t wait, I feel like I’m on the Beatles,” Mason says of his star-studded roster of teammates. “We’ll see what we got. We’ve got all the names that’s for sure.”

But, for two guys who will be undoubtedly be considered key role players during the winter, both Plumlees entered the Orlando Pro Summer League this past week as leaders and focal points of their team’s gameplans.

For Miles, it was basically an audition to fill the role that Tyler Hansbrough has vacated for a gig with the Toronto Raptors. Mason, on the other hand, was warming up to be the backup for a future Hall of Famer.

“I just wanted to really focus on what I’ve been working on, really play within the team, play hard and show people my motor out on the court,” Miles said. “I’ve been working on simple things—my post game, defensively really making more calls and anchoring the defense and protecting the rim.”

Miles didn’t disappoint. He averaged 10.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in 27.0 minutes per game before twisting his ankle that kept him out of the Pacers’ final game against the Utah Jazz. His ankle won’t sideline him much longer and he thinks his performance is just a preview of what he can bring to the court for Indy during ’13-14.

“I just went out there and tried to give it my all,” Miles said. “I’m confident I can step in and fill [Hansbrough’s] role. He’ll be missed; he was a special part of our group. I learned a lot from him and I’m going to try and fill that void as well.”

Mason agrees his brother shined in the Amway Center practice facility and is looking forward to his brother’s hopeful increase in minutes.

“He was blocking everything, man,” Mason said of his brother’s hot start to the week. “He had a good Summer League last year. With his size and athleticism, when he gets on the floor he’s going to make things happen defensively and then go after rebounds. So I expected that out of him.”

Miles is anticipating his little brother’s professional debut, too. He knew Mason would hit the ground running from day one.

“I wasn’t surprised at all. He just played like himself,” the older Plumlee said. “He got to show some things that maybe he didn’t have the chance to in college. That’s the same for a lot of guys that get drafted. At the next level, you have to learn some different skill sets, so I think he did that well and kind of got a taste of what it’s going to be like to play in this League.”

Mason was one of the leaders of a Brooklyn Nets Summer League team that went 0-5 and saw limited positive moments as a team. But their rookie big man was certainly a bright spot in an otherwise cloudy week.

Plumlee averaged 13.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 29.4 minutes per game for the Nets and had one of the highlight plays of the entire week.

“I was expecting to do pretty well,” the rookie said. “I knew guys were going to be looking for me, based on practice. I thought we would do a little bit better as a team, but it was a good week overall.”

But unfortunately, the two were never able to square off based on the new “playoff system” of the league. In fact, the last time they were even on the same basketball court was when they played one-on-one at Duke before last season. It goes without saying that they’re first meeting on an NBA court is something they’re both looking forward to.

“I would have liked to have played him [in Orlando] but it just didn’t work out,” Miles said. “I’m looking forward to when we do meet. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. It’s just basketball, but I’m sure we’ll go at it.” Mason says. “Our first meeting will definitely be physical. That’ll be a game that has a little extra something in that’s for sure.”

The two Plumlees, both standing at least 6-10 and weighing at least 235 pounds, were one of the hottest topics amidst press row in Orlando this week. Considering the Summer League featured more big names than usual, that’s saying some. And as many traditions go in the League, they’ll continue to bring the blue-collar attitude and grit down low to Playoff-contending teams this winter.

Get ready to here the name Plumlee for many years to come.

Miles Plumlee was an enigma throughout his four years at Duke. A 7-0 who could get his head at rim level, he often was forced to play second fiddle to the countless pros that came in and out of Durham during his tenure. Relegated to the role of enforcer inside, Plumlee did what was asked of him by his team and wound up having a productive career.

There were flashes of brilliance, though. Miles averaged 7 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game. Even more impressively, three of those boards were snagged on the offensive end. The Indiana native took just 4.3 shots per game with the majority coming around the rim, but did give onlookers a glimpse of what he had to offer by hitting an occasional jumper facing the basket. Now that his role as  Blue Devil has been fulfilled, Plumlee has the opportunity to show teams what they may not necessarily have seen at Duke.

Early in the workout, one thing that was most surprising about Plumlee was his ability to handle the rock. The control that he showed throughout the two-ball work was better than a lot of the wings in the group. Of course we aren’t going to be seeing Plumlee starting the break like Lamar Odom but it’s still good to see the type of control he has with the rock.

Transitioning over to the shooting drills, Plumlee showed surprising range that you didn’t see too often at Duke. He looked comfortable in pick and pop situations, quickly grasping how to pivot to open the ball and how to time things out after setting a screen. It was really impressive stuff that you don’t see too often out of a 7-footer who averaged just six points per game as a senior. Early on in the workout, it was evident you have to dig deeper than the box score with Plumlee.

“His skill level is a little better than people think, not because they didn’t do a good job at Duke, because they really did a great job there,” said Josh Oppenheimer, former college coach and current trainer at Excel Basketball. “At Duke they’re playing to win National Championships and he had to do what they asked him to do. He definitely has a little bit more range on his shot than people think.”

A few of the questions that teams will have about Plumlee is that if he really is so talented, why didn’t he play more for Coach K? Also, how could one of the most athletic centers in the country who runs and jumps so well not even average 1 block per game? Answers to both of these couldn’t be received from a workout, but will certainly come to light during interviews with potential teams.

With the Draft now less than a month away and the draft order now set, things should get even crazier for potential second round picks like Plumlee. Given the lack of true centers in this Draft, he’ll be living wheels up from coast to coast for workouts. Ultimately, it’s going to come down to a team believing that Plumlee’s upside is enough to warrant a second round pick, something that Oppenheimer and I both believe will happen, especially if he can show his offensive skills.

“He’s got to make shots. If he can get into workouts and show that he can pick and pop, spread the floor, pull a little bit, he’s going to be a guy who gets a look without as many true centers in the league,” Oppenheimer said with a sense of confidence in his voice. “When he goes into workouts in great shape and shows teams he has a motor, he’ll be fine. The shot-blocking, the running, the athleticism will all be apparent. If he can make some shots too, he’ll really move up in the Draft.”
